I like Jill, her past books, but not this one...

I'm not happy that I have to give this book 2-stars because I am a big Jill Konrath fan...but I am reviewing the book, however and not the person.
Her first two books were beautiful reads. They were insightful, helpful and they provided great information and tactics.
Agile Selling to my disappointed seemed elementary. It seemed as it was a book written to fill pages of common sense knowledge.
For example: It attempts to teach you how to memorize information (writing on index cards). How is that innovative or new information? Most professionals, I believe whether in high school, college or the business world don't need to be reminded how to use index cards.
If you've read other sales books or Jill's past two books this book serves as a complete redundancy. It's basic knowledge anyone should know and provides little new, refreshing ideas.

A Must Read for Anyone Who Wants to Keep Succeeding

Agile Selling is one of those books hat should be digested and not just read.
The ideas for being a consistent sales winner come at you fast and furious in Jill's short chapters.

She makes a point, supports it with a story and provides actionable tips to implement.

The Agile Mindset that begins the book was powerful and builds the case for our need to be agile in mind, spirit, and action!

Some of the specific topics that I believe every salesperson, leader, and heck, even my family would benefit from include:
- How to learn new information quickly. Yes, she found practical actions for us all to learn better
- Success Habits in Part 5 outlines very specific ways to be successful today and for the long-run.

I suggest that anyone with a team that needs to stay on top of their game use this book to help their people be agile. Take one idea a week and use it as a discussion starter in your meetings. Challenge each other and celebrate your agility.

Every word in the book is timely and relevant - what more can you ask for?

A Learning and Adapting Masterpiece!

I’ve said it before: I’ve read a ton of sales books, including Jill’s two previous ones. I love to read sales books; I always walk away with something new. This time I walked away with a LOT new, especially in the areas of learning and adapting. Why should you read this book? Because it’s one of the best, most comprehensive sales books you’ll ever read. You’ll come away from "Agile Selling" with a whole new attitude about the learning process, to say nothing about receiving a set of skills to accomplish that learning. Ditto for adapting to the changes constantly taking place in the sales world. This book takes common sense to an art form.

You’ll also get a perspective about how your prospects/customers view you. It’s going to shock you, because, trust me, it isn’t pretty. More importantly, Jill is going to teach you how to turn that unhappy phenomenon around to your benefit.

After I read the book, I went back and read all the Amazon reviews and was astonished to see that one reviewer had listed a number of questions from the book that I, too, had marked off from a particular chapter. A coincidence? I don’t think so. Make note of these questions, they’re vitally important! Here they are, along with a few others I marked off:

1. What are the most challenging parts of the decision process?

2. How do you determine if a product or service makes good business sense for your company?

3. What piques your curiosity and gets you to even consider a change?

4. What does it take to get a contract for something like this approved?

5. How do you decide which resource is best for you?

6. Who are the people who need to be involved in a decision like this?

7. What problems might they be encountering with the current way of doing things?

8. In what ways is this decision maker similar to other people I’ve worked with.

9. Do you lose to “no decision” frequently?

10. Are competitors beating you up?

11. Are your existing customers growing?

About the Author
Kathy and Craig are dedicated to each other, and to hiking, in that order. Their second date was a 32-km (20-mile) dayhike in Arizona. Since then they haven’t stopped for long. They’ve trekked through much of the world’s vertical topography, including the Himalayas, Patagonian Andes, Pyrenees, Swiss and French Alps, Scottish Highlands, Dolomites, Sierra Nevada, North Cascades, Colorado Rockies, New Zealand Alps, and canyons of the American Southwest. In 1989, they moved from the U.S. to Canada, so they could live near the Canadian Rockies—the range that inspired the first of their refreshingly unconventional guidebooks: Don’t Waste Your Time® in the Canadian Rockies. While living in Vancouver, British Columbia, they explored the Coast Mountains and the North Cascades, then wrote hiking guidebooks on each of those ranges. Later, while living in a cabin on Kootenay Lake (between B.C.’s Purcell and Selkirk mountains), they researched and wrote two more hiking guidebooks: one on the West Kootenay, the other on the premier trails of southern B.C. Kathy and Craig have since returned to the Canadian Rockies and now live in Canmore, Alberta. Their desire to hike, however, keeps them travelling constantly. For example, they migrate each spring and fall to the high-desert canyon country of southern Utah. Their guidebook on that sensual, other-worldly landscape promises to be especially stimulating.

Wow! Must Read!

First, I must say that Blue Saffire has become one of my favorite authors. I laughed, cried and rejoined while reading this book. Wyatt Black is the man. He is so comical at times, and I love his inner thoughts. His love for his family ran deep, but his love for Nellie was unconditional! Love the way he loved her and brought her out of her cocoon and made her the vixion that she was. Boy, was the sex hot, hot, hot, loved it. It broke my heart to see her mother having to suffer and succumb to the fight against cancer, it touched my heart because it hit him to me personally. I was glad to see that Nathan Briggs and the gang was brought into the story. I like how all of her novels are inter gained. I must say I will continue to read any and everything from Blue Saffire in the future.

such proper speaking characters

I just struggled though this book...when I'm reading , the characters have to sound as real as can be, but the way they talk just gets tedious. It's ok to use contractions , especially when the leading male is as alpha as described. Him saying things like, "I am " instead of good 'ol "I'm" or "if she is " as opposed to "if she's" just slows down the reading for me. It throws me off and I can't "hear" the character "speak". Maybe it's just brain processing the first person narration.

What A Story!!

This was such a good read! I can't wait until the next installment of this series comes out! I was hooked from the very first page of this story to the very end. I loved Wyatt and Nellie their chemistry together was Hot from the very beginning. I loved his family, I loved Nellie's mom and step dad. I laughed at the funny moments was on the edge of my seat during the drama filled moments and lastly had tears in my eyes at the sad and happy moments. This was my first time reading this author's work and I must say I can't wait to read more of it. A definite must read!

Over a career that spanned three decades, Philip K. Dick (1928-1982) wrote 121 short stories and 45 novels, establishing himself as one of the most visionary authors of the twentieth century. Dick's Masterpiece

The Man in the High Castle is Dick's masterpiece. Along with VALIS and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, it completes the trilogy of the author's essential works. A must read for Dickheads or for anyone who considers himself a serious fan of science fiction. Dick was clearly influenced by two earlier works of alternative history, Sarban's The Sound of His Horn and C. M. Kornbluth's "Two Dooms". In turn, The Man in the High Castle has influenced any number of later works, not just Norman Spinrad's The Iron Dream and the novels of Harry Turtledove, but Ursula LeGuin's The Lathe of Heaven as well.
This is a very complex, suspenseful novel, consisting of four main plot lines and a host of characters whose lives sometimes interact. Don't expect any slam-bang pyrotechnic action here, despite the novel's provocative premise. It's more a slice of life tale, showing that even after a catastrophic defeat, life in America would go on. Dick is very good at detailing the nuances of life in Axis-ruled America. For example, at one point as an aside, it is pointed out that after the Nazi pograms, the only surviving prewar comedian is Bob Hope, and even he has to broadcast out of Canada. Also, an unintended irony for a novel written in 1962 is Dick's conjecture that if the United States had lost WWII, we would all be listening to Japanese audio equipment and driving German cars now. The author achieves the near impossible feat of actually being even-handed towards the Nazis without glamorizing them. He describes them at one point as Neanderthals in white lab coats, technological geniuses who have drained the Mediterranean and are conquering the Solar System, yet are morally bankrupt. Dick is much easier on the Japanese, depicting them not just as benign conquerors, but almost like a group of tourists, just off the latest JAL flight headed for the souvenir stand at Disneyland. Only in one brief instance when Juliana Frink reminiscences about conditions in San Francisco immediately after the occupation is their wartime rapacity even hinted at.
Several other reviewers here appear to be put off that the novel didn't live up to the action and dramatic tension hinted at in the synopsis above or the 1964 Popular Library cover with its map of the United States superimposed by Nazi and Imperial Japanese flags. When I first read it back in 1964 at age fourteen, I felt much the same way. On rereading it in 1988, however, I saw it for its true worth, an existential novel of the first order (ranking with the best of Camus or Sartre). It represents the fullest flowering of Dick's most consistent theme: What is reality? The provocative setting of an alternative universe where the Axis has won World War II and now occupies a defeated and humiliated America is merely a sensational back drop for Dick's real theme: how can we be sure of what is real? Thus the seemingly minor scene involving two Zippo lighters is actually the key to understanding the whole novel. One is merely a minor collectible, the other is priceless, Mr. Wyndam-Matson tells his mistress. What's the difference? The one was the actual lighter FDR was carrying when he was assassinated in 1934. But how does he know it is real? Well, he has a paper that certifies it is. But how does he know the paper is real? And so on. Likewise, the emphasis on the Japanese obsession with collecting authentic relics of America's prewar past is a symbolic of the authenticity which all the novel's characters are seeking in their own diverse ways. The anticlimactic and ambiguous ending also only serves to re-enforce what Dick was trying to say. In retrospect, he couldn't have ended it any other way. To neatly wrap things up would only subvert the novel's whole premise.

Alternate history...Philip K. Dick style.
What does that mean? Well, basically, if you think that the characters in this book seem a little out of place, keep reading, and you may find YOURSELF out of place.
On the surface, it is the usual time-shifting novel...FDR was assasinated in 1936, and as a result, the United States lost WW II. Twenty years in the future, when the novel takes place, Nazi Germany and the Japanese Empire have occupied the United States and imposed their brand of culture on their respective halves of the American populace.
But this book really isn't about alternate time lines...its about alternate realities. Things are not as they seem...characters' true identities are hidden, and their moralities are tested. It's about the nature of the true state of the universe, Eastern religion, and the I-Ching. When Philip K. Dick is at his best, his characters question their own existence, and it soon follows that the readers do the same.
So when you come to the end of the book, hopefully, a number of things will happen:
Number 1: You'll instantly re-read the ending.
Number 2: You'll throw the book against the wall and exclaim "that's it?"
Number 3: You'll probably re-read the ending again.
Number 4: You'll swear that you'll never read another Philip K. Dick novel.
Number 5: Later, you'll think a bit about the book, and realize that the novel wasn't really about what you thought it was.
Number 6: You'll read it again. And again...
This isn't your typical sci-fi novel. The story doesn't wrap-up into a neat little package. Like Eastern religions, time is not linear, it is circular, and that is the reality of the book.
Alternate histories are so commonplace in sci-fi today, that it is important to look at this book as the one that really started it all. A completely original masterpiece...even the followers can't keep up.

The Grasshopper Lies Heavy

Philip K. Dick's masterpiece is one of the classics of the alternative history genre. This was my first Philip K.Dick novel and it's so good that I want to light up a Land-o-Smiles and read everything he's ever written. The characters seem like real people. The story is told through interleaved overlapping stories that revolve around the Nazi and Japanese domination of America after America and the British lost WWII in 1947. It's 1962 and the United States has been divided between the Nazis in the East and the Japanese in the West. America has become a third world country controlled and exploited by the victors. The Japanese are better masters than the Germans. The Germans have turned their part of the world into a living nightmare and are plotting to start a war with the Japanese. The Japanese are quiet and philosophical. The scenes of life in Japanese dominated San Francisco are oddly familiar. Dick has transposed the usual circumstance a visiting American finds in third world countries friendly to the United States: Wealthy foreigners living in exclusive enclaves, fawning local businessmen eager to get the foreign visitor's business, local police dominated and loosely controlled by the foreigners. The I Ching is central to the story, guiding the action of many of the protagonists.
In all an imaginative take on what life could have been like, uniquely flavored by the influence of Eastern Philosophy.

The 37th Parallel CHAPTER 1 37.2841° N, 108.7787° W
September 12, 2000. A stretch of interstate highway winding along the base of the Ute Mountain Range near the Colorado–New Mexico border, a little after 4:00 p.m.

In a panoramic splash of pine trees and puffs of falling snow, flashes of brilliant sunlight reflected off the cap of Ute Peak, the Sleeping Mountain, high above. And then a beat-up RV lumbered into view. Over the rumble of the camper’s engines rose the off-key tenor of an all-American family sing-along.

Chuck Zukowski was at the wheel of the twenty-four-foot Winnebago Warrior Class A, both hands tapping out the rhythm of “Sweet Home Alabama” on the thick vinyl of the steering wheel cover. Early forties, sandy-haired, fit, Chuck was smiling as he navigated the camper down the serpentine asphalt. His three kids were in the back, one girl and two boys, and his wife, Tammy, a pretty brunette, was up front, joining Chuck in keeping the beat with her fingers against the dash. From the lines beneath Chuck’s blue eyes, it was obvious that they’d been driving for quite some time, but there was enough vivid scenery flashing by outside to keep even the youngest kid from getting bored. This sort of road trip was something the Zukowski clan enjoyed. In fact, when Chuck finally spotted the small ranch-style motel along the highway, coinciding with the notice from the dulcet tone of the RV’s audio GPS, he was almost reluctant to pull in for the night.

After parking the RV in the empty motel lot, Chuck grabbed a pair of room keys from the lobby manager, and the Zukowski family settled into two adjoining rooms overlooking a tarp-covered pool. The kids went straight for the TV in their room, after a quick dinner, microwaved to perfection in the RV, but next door, Tammy headed for the bed and sank into it with a tattered paperback, exhausted from the long day in the camper.

A few hours later, the kids finally let the TV get some rest, and Chuck closed the door between the two rooms. The sun was long gone outside, the view of the shuttered pool replaced by an inky blackness, broken only by the occasional flare of neon from the vacancy sign hanging above the motel lobby. Tammy was still digging into the paperback, but Chuck could tell she was down for the night. He ran his fingers through her hair and then told her he was going out for a short walk. Barely looking up from the book, she asked him to get some ice from the machine on his way back.

He took the ice bucket from the mantel by the door and headed out to the parking lot. Opening the back of the RV, he leaned into a four-by-four storage compartment and reached toward a locked strongbox affixed to one wall. With a jangle of keys, he pried open the box and exchanged the ice bucket—which he would fill when he returned to the Winnebago—for his equipment: a three-pound police flashlight, a video recorder, an EMF counter, and three rectangular batteries. Then he reached for the leather holster hanging from a hook at the back of the box and removed his .40 caliber Glock from it before checking the cartridges and strapping it to his waist.

By the time he exited the RV, snow had started to fall again, but even so he could see the headlights snaking toward him down the desolate highway.

Two hours later Chuck was breathing hard as he burst through the last line of thick pines into a clearing following his two companions—an athletic man, midthirties, sporting a pony tail and dressed in a thick hunting jacket with a machete slung over one shoulder, and a thin, slightly older woman struggling along in a bulky snowsuit and too many scarves. Tufts of low grass covered in snow punctuated the field of icy gravel. The three of them were now at least eight thousand feet up, high enough to feel the altitude; the other man, Joe Fex, part Native American, a rugged outdoorsman reared on the ranches that pockmarked this corner of the country, was barely sweating as he began setting up their makeshift campsite, raising a canvas tent to protect their equipment. But the woman was trembling from exhaustion and certainly fear. Chuck had no worries about Fex; the big man was an old friend and had accompanied Chuck on many similar excursions over the years. But the woman was a wild card; Chuck had met her over the Internet not two weeks earlier, and the drive over to the base of this hike was the longest time Chuck had spent with her in person. Chuck would have been much happier if they could have left her behind—but it was her information that had brought them to this spot.

According to her website, she was supposed to be some sort of psychic. Chuck wasn’t the type to judge anyone—for all he knew she had a cemetery full of dead people on speed dial. More likely, she was batshit crazy, but it didn’t really matter. As usual, Chuck had done his research. The psychic might have been the first to turn him on to this particular location, but now he had a case file an inch thick on this place.

Case file or no, the next two hours licked past in near silence, the three of them getting colder as the wind picked up, rustling through the nearby pines and sending ice chips and gravel skittering across the ground. Chuck wondered if they should cut out and chalk it up as another in a long list of wild-goose chases. In a few more hours, the kids would be waking up, and Tammy would want to get back on the road and find someplace for a good, cheap breakfast. Maybe there was a Denny’s somewhere up the interstate.

Chuck froze midthought, as he noticed something strange. The wind seemed to have stopped—not gradually, but suddenly—and the air went silent. He opened his mouth to say something to Joe, but before he could get the words out, there was a sudden flash of light in the pitch-black sky above. Incredibly bright, at least three hundred feet up—and it stayed lit. Before Chuck could shout for Joe to grab the camera from the tent, a second light joined the first, and the two flashes sprinted through the air in a wide arc. Then, it seemed as if the entire sky had opened up, lights exploding everywhere, brighter than the Fourth of July.

“Holy shit!” Chuck screamed. “Joe . . .”

Joe was already dashing at full speed around the psychic—who had curled into a ball on the ground, her face a mask of pure terror—and into the tent. He quickly returned with the camera and all three batteries. Chuck grabbed the camera from Joe’s shaking hands, turned it toward the sky, hit the button—and . . . nothing.

The camera was dead.

Chuck cursed, yanking the battery out of the device, jamming the second fresh battery into the base. He hit the button again. And again, nothing. He tried the third battery, but it was obvious all three batteries were now, inexplicably, completely drained. Chuck felt his pulse rocketing in his veins. To have one backup battery go out would have been unusual—but all three?

“What the hell are they?” Joe shouted, as the two men stared at the lights arcing back and forth through the sky above them. “Helicopters?”

Chuck shook his head. His mouth was dry, his chest constricted with fear. He’d never seen anything like this before.

“No way. Helicopters can’t move like that. Or fly that close together.”

“A meteor shower? Some sort of discharge? Or . . .”

And just as suddenly as they had started, the lights vanished. Completely. The sky went back to black. A strange, intense silence spread across the clearing, severe as a leather belt snapping tight. Not a single tree branch twitched.

And then a high-pitched scream pierced the air, from somewhere below the tree line, maybe two hundred feet down the mountain.

Christ. Chuck looked at Joe as the screaming grew louder. There was a crashing of tree branches: Whatever was making that noise was coming toward them. Some sort of animal, maybe an elk or a moose, running at full speed, screaming that unnerving, terrified scream. Bearing down on them, louder and louder, diving headlong through the pines toward the clearing . . .

And then just as suddenly as it had started, the noise cut off dead, midscream. The animal, whatever it was, had been running from something. Something that had taken it down in a single stroke.

The breeze picked back up, and the night switched back to normal, as if none of what Chuck and his companions had just experienced had ever happened.

Chuck stared at Joe, at the way the big man was shivering beneath his hunting jacket, and then at the psychic, who was sobbing on the ground. Then he looked down at his own trembling hands, one of which was resting on the hilt of his .40, still in its holster.

He shook his head, completely unnerved.

“Whatever ran that animal down—this Glock isn’t near big enough, is it?”

At that, even in his terrified state, he almost cracked a smile.

The 37th Parallel (A book about true-life events.)

I gave this book 5 Stars because I'm Chuck Zukowski, the investigator in the book. First, I receive no profits from the book, but what I do receive is, knowing people are reading about real events that have affected mine and my family's life. (Over 30 years.) Ben Mezrich has a phenomenal writing ability putting information out to the public in which everyone can enjoy, and it was an honor working with him. While you're reading this book, you'll learn a lot about UFOlogy, from "Balls of Light" to "Animal Mutilations" which are still occurring, as recent as late August, 2016. These events are real! Some comments I've read are from people who don't like the ending of the book, some people want to see a conclusion, or conclusive evidence Aliens exist, well it's a lot more complicated than that. We live in a world where information is being hidden from the public, and some people seem to disappear when getting too close, so the only way to combat that, is to get as much information as we can out to the public; and this book does that. Read the book, decide for yourselves, and if you have any questions, simply email me... Thank you...

Its a mystery that is just plain weird. Of course its about what is on the 37TH Parallel BUT why there?? Why not a few degrees either direction ? Why not go from pole to pole direction? What is so important at that exact parallel? A great mystery. And to drive as close as you can and maybe see some mystery that close to it.

Somewhat interesting story of a passionate ufo investigator, but does not lead to any revelations by the investigator that adds to solving any of the intricacies of the phenomena's that he's researching. This book seems to end where I would like it to begin ........ and the "redactions"????

Barbara is an active CPR, First Aid, ACLS, and PALS instructor and takes a special interest in teaching basic dysrhythmia recognition to nurses and paramedics. She is a consultant with the Southwest Ambulance paramedic program in Mesa, Arizona, and an active member of the Pursley, Texas, Volunteer Fire Department.

Stop That Ball

I had this book for my three boys when they were little and recently purchased this for my grandchildren. My sons loved it when they were learning to read, remembered it and wanted it for their children. I only had the one book from their childhood so went on line to purchase two more. Since mailing them off to my grandchildren, they too enjoy it as much as their dad's did and it is a book requested over and over. It is a step for early readers between very simple reading to a little longer subject matter and holds their interest through the ongoing activity in the book. Great little book!

Jay H. Withgott

Jay H. Withgott has authored Essential Environment and its parent volume, Environment: The Science behind the Stories, since their inception. In dedicating himself to these books, he works to keep abreast of a diverse and rapidly changing field and continually seeks to develop new and better ways to help today’s students learn environmental science.

As a researcher, Jay has published papers in ecology, evolution, animal behavior, and conservation biology in journals ranging from Evolution to Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. As an instructor, he has taught university lab courses in ecology and other disciplines. As a science writer, Jay has authored articles for journals and magazines including Science, New Scientist, BioScience, Smithsonian, and Natural History. By combining his scientific training with prior experience as a newspaper reporter and editor, he strives to make science accessible and engaging for general audiences. Jay holds degrees from Yale University, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Arizona.

Jay lives with his wife, biologist Susan Masta, in Portland, Oregon.

Matthew M. Laposata

Matthew M. Laposata is a professor of environmental science at Kennesaw State University (KSU). He holds a bachelor's degree in biology education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a masters in biology from Bowling Green State University, and a doctorate in ecology from The Pennsylvania State University.

Matt is the coordinator of KSU's two-semester, general education science sequence Science, Society, and the Environment which enrolls roughly 7,000 students a year. He focuses exclusively on introductory environmental science courses, and has enjoyed teaching and interacting with thousands of non-science majors during his career. He is an active scholar in environmental science education and has received grants from state, federal, and private sources to develop and evaluate innovative curricular materials. His scholarly work has received numerous awards, including the Georgia Board of Regents' highest award for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

He resides in suburban Atlanta with his wife Lisa, and children Lauren, Cameron, and Saffron.

Makes it a little clunky to follow but other than that not a bad book.

Required reading for my Environmental Issues Class, the chapters are informative and well written, I kind of wish they would keep segments blocked together instead of spreading two different segments across the same two or three pages. Makes it a little clunky to follow but other than that not a bad book.

Good book packed full of tons of information that will ...

Good book packed full of tons of information that will make you want to read texts on chemistry, microbiology, geology, atmospheric science and countless other subjects.
There are some things I didn't like though:
1. The book appears to be funded by the Living Planet report, a highly UNscientific paper that was publicized by WWF, Nat Geo & other decent groups, but also involves many banks, corporations, NGOs...Well, it's good to call attention to the environment, but the math involved in that report is garbage, and it's been overused ad nauseum.

2. When going over "controversial" subjects such as GMOs & nuclear power, the book caters to public paranoia by repeatedly stating things that "might" go wrong. Though the book does say GMOs are clearly safe, it also seems to justify the irrational anti-GMO sentiments that seem to have a grip on the USA. On the other hand, when mentioning "Organic", the bias is reversed: Organic industry is presented favorably, with little or no question about the methods (which use pesticides, manure etc).

Interesting topic but tacking on "Climate Change" to the end of each chapter seems fishy.

Read this book for an Environment Science class, the book had some good information in it but it seemed that even after they would explain how evolution, normal changes to the way the environment works, how some human interaction has different affects on things in a scientific way, then at the end they would tack on some extra few paragraphs about how no none of that science had anything to do with it, but instead "Climate Change" was the cause of everything. It always felt like they released an updated version just to add climate change to every chapter because someone told them they had to add the popular belief no questions or going back to look at the research and science shown in the book.
