About the Author

William Hustrulid studied Minerals Engineering at the University of Minnesota. After obtaining his Ph.D. degree in 1968, his career has included responsible roles in both mining academia and in the mining business itself. He has served as Professor of Mining Engineering at the University of Utah and at the Colorado School of Mines and as a Guest Professor at theTechnical University in Luleå, Sweden. In addition, he has held mining R&D positions for companies in the USA, Sweden, and the former Republic of Zaire. He is a Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and a Foreign Member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA). He currently holds the rank of Professor Emeritus at the University of Utah and manages Hustrulid Mining Services in Spokane,Washington.

Mark Kuchta studied Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines and received his Ph.D. degree from the Technical University in Luleå, Sweden. He has had a wide-ranging career in the mining business. This has included working as a contract miner in the uranium mines of western Colorado and 10 years of experience in various positions with LKAB in northern Sweden. At present, Mark is an Associate Professor of Mining Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. He is actively involved in the education of future mining engineers at both undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts a very active research program. His professional interests include the use of high-pressure waterjets for rock scaling applications in underground mines, strategic mine planning, advanced mine production scheduling and the development of user-friendly mine software.

Randall K. “Randy” Martin studied Metallurgical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines and later received a Master of Science in Mineral Economics from Mines. He has over thirty years of experience as a geologic modeler and mine planner, having worked for Amax Mining, Pincock, Allen & Holt, and Tetratech. Currently he serves as President of R.K. Martin and Associates, Inc. His company performs consulting services, and also markets and supports a variety of software packages which are used in the mining industry. A great origin story of an entertainment giant

David L. Craddock has pieced together a fascinating narrative from first-hand sources. Even with my own game development experience, I found that Stay Awhile and Listen provided a unique insight into the development process used in past eras, and the book still has some valuable lessons for us today. It shows that there was a potent mixture of talent, opportunity, and personality that drove the meteoric rise of Blizzard Entertainment from its earliest days. I can't wait for the next installment.

Stay Awhile and Listen: How Two Blizzards Unleashed Diablo and Forged a Video-Game Empire - Book I
You don't have to be a Diablo fan to get a lot out of this book. Stay Awhile and Listen takes you inside the game development world, and leaves you with a really solid understanding of how much craziness happens between having an idea and shipping a game. Probably 50% of the text are direct quotes from more than a dozen of the folks who made Diablo happen, but Craddock weaves these quotes together in a way that manages to be really informative without ever being dry. Creating an adventure game is an adventure in itself, and this feels like an adventure story.

If you are considering a career as a game developer, read this book first. It is both an inspirational and a cautionary tale.

A Fun & Breezy Read

I am in geek-out heaven reading this account of Blizzard's earliest days. This is an easy and fun read, and highly interesting even if one doesn't know the games involved first-hand. I, for one, have never bothered with Diablo and these are among the more interesting Chapters I've consumed so far. One needn't even be a gamer to enjoy this volume, I think. Despite the gaming-specific details, the tome also functions as a kind of guide-to-startups and all of the pain, passion and personal sacrifice involved with authoring one's own company. Also quite fascinating is just how blindly and coincidentally these developers stumbled upon their chosen solutions to traditional in-game problems. Things a WoW or a Diablo player takes for granted (e.g. how each game handles the concept of "death") were problems first encountered by the original players of the game: the Developers themselves! Here's hoping there won't be TOO much of a delay before Book II is released, this is a very fun read and one highly recommended for anyone with even a passing interest in video games.

Illustrations and Explanatory

Apposed to my Modern Dental Assisting book, this book goes into great detail for dental materials. This is considered to be a large part of your job as a Dental Assistant. I will be a EFDA- Expanded Function Dental Assistant, so this book for me is necessary. The illustrations are great and the way things are explained makes for easy comprehension. I did not however see illustration or direction on making a mounted articulated jaw with maxillary and mandibular dentition for occlusion reasons, etc.

Nice Chapter Layouts

This is a great book even if you are not going into a hygiene or assisting program, but have worked in the feild for a while and aren't up to date on what is current. Perhaps the dentist you have worked with for the last 20 years only uses the same old thing and you have forgotten how to use all the other materials that are out there.

The chapters are well organized, with outlines and summaries. A+ I love it.
